For the second time in six days, Luther College has defeated a top-25 team on the road. Last Saturday, Sept. 9, the Norse defeated No. 14 UW-Whitewater at the Whitewater Invitational. Tonight, the Norse handed No. 21 UW-La Crosse a 3-1 defeat in Mitchell Hall in front of an estimated crowd of 405.
Luther won set one 25-15 and La Crosse responded with a 25-22 victory in set two. Luther posted scores of 25-19 and 25-21 in the sets three and four to secure its seventh victory of the season.
Led by the defensive efforts of Sam Schroeder and Morgan Towne, the Norse dominated at the net producing 12 team blocks. Schroeder was credited with six total blocks and Towne 5. Anna Larson, and Emma Veum both contributed three.
Natalie Cote and Larson led a foursome of players that tallied double-digit dig totals. Cote and Larson were both credited with 12. Kime had 11 and Sixta had 10.
The Norse return to action one week from today when they will travel to Mequon, Wis. and Concordia University for the NACC/IIAC Crossover Tournament. Luther will face Dominican University (IL) and Edgewood College (WI) on Friday, Sept. 22. On Saturday, Luther will play Aurora University (IL) and host Concordia University.
