After opening Iowa Conference play with a victory over Buena Vista on opening weekend, the Norse men’s tennis team was back in action against hosting Loras College. Luther won two of the three doubles matches and then swept all six singles matches in straight sets to earn an 8-1 victory, improving to 2-0 in the IIAC.
Aaron Ford and Kenny Goins cruised to an (8-0) victory over Ulises Hernandez and Jack O’Brian at No. 3 doubles while Matt Knutson and Sam Buffington were (8-1) winners against Neil Kane and Jeff Kasel at No. 2. The Duhawks notched a victory at No. 1, giving the Norse a 2-1 lead heading into the singles matches.
The Norse dropped just 12 games on the way to winning handily at all six singles positions. Bjørn Norderhaug was a (6-0, 6-0) winner at No. 6, beating O’Brian. Sam Cychosz quickly followed with a (6-1, 6-0) win against Brian Falvey at No. 1, and Goins beat Kane (6-2, 6-0) at No. 3 to clinch the win for the Norse. Knutson gave Luther its sixth point with a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Kasel at No. 2 while Ford beat Sam Steingraeber (6-1, 6-0) to make it 7-1. Buffington rounded out the scoring with a (6-2, 6-3) decision against Hernandez at No. 4.
