Nationally ranked No. 7 Luther lost its first game of the season, splitting with Bethel University 6-4, 2-5 this afternoon at the Vadnais Heights Sports Center.
In game one, Carli Radil hit a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Norse a 6-4 victory. After Bethel took an early 3-0 lead in the top half of the first, the Norse tied the game scoring two in the bottom of the first and one in the second. Both teams scored in the fourth frame, setting up the Radil game winner.
Hiliary Pennington, Kelsey Rose and Paige Lobdell all had multiple hits. Pennington was 3-for-3 and scored twice. Rose was 3-for-4 and Lobdell was 2-for-4.
Becca Girvan (4-0) went the distance in the circle. Girvan faced 32 batters, allowed four runs on five hits, walked five and struck out nine.
Annie Versnik was credited with the loss. Versnik threw the first three innings and allowed four runs on six hits and struck out two.
The Norse will return to action in 11 days when they will begin their annual spring trip to the National Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. The Norse are schedule to play 10 games beginning with contests against Williams College (MA) and Concordia (WI) on March 23.
