Luther won its season opener tonight over UW-River Falls by a score of 80-75. This was the first of two games tonight at the UW-Eau Claire Tip-Off Classic.
Leading by as many as 13 points in the second frame, the Norse had to hold off a scrappy Falcon squad in the final minutes to secure the first victory of the season.
Trailing 74-61, the Falcons put together an 11-0 run to pull to within two 74-72 with 1:37 left in the game. Tayler Jenks stopped the come back with a three-point basket, her only trey of the game, that gave the Norse a 77-72 advantage and the Falcons never got closer the rest of the way.
Taylor Johnson and Meagan Koepnick led the Norse with double-doubles. Johnson tallied game highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while Koepnick scored 14 points and grabbed 10 boards. Logan Hjerleid also scored double digits with 19.
The Norse will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they will face host UW-Eau Claire at 5:00 p.m. Fans can watch all the action via video stream.
