The free throw line proved to be the difference tonight here in the Regents Center as Luther dropped a 71-62 decision to No. 11 Simpson College.
Both squads shot 37 percent connecting on 22 field goals, that included both teams making seven three-point baskets. Simpson missed just four shots from the charity stripe and was 20-for-24. Luther shot 44 percent from the free throw line connecting on 11-of-25 attempts.The Norse won the battle of the boards 45-36.
Taylor Johnson led the Norse offensive attack with 17 points. Meagan Koepnick also reached double digits with 10. Kylie Romeo fell one shy with nine.
Simpson's Kate Nielsen recorded a double-double producing 21 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Chelsie Rohrs and Nicole Crisp also tallied double digits with 11 and 10 respectively.
The loss gives Luther an Iowa Conference record to 1-1, 9-4 overall. Simpson moves to 2-0 in league play, 12-1 overall.
Luther travels to Central College this Saturday, Jan. 12 for a game that will begin at 2:00 p.m. This game will be audio streamed starting with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m.
