Luther fell to 0-2 in the Iowa Conference after dropping a 29-0 decision to University of Dubuque in front of the Homecoming crowd here in Carlson Stadium.
The Spartans racked up 442 yards of total offense while controlling the football for 40:53. Spartan quarterback Wyatt Hanus threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Dakota Runde rushed for 104 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown.
Luther tallied a season low 157 yards of total offense, 84 on the ground and 73 in the air.
Middle linebacker Trent Kerrigan was all over the field this afternoon. Kerrigan was credited with 21 tackles that included one of Luther's two sacks. He also recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touch back, that stopped a Dubuque scoring drive late in the fourth quarter. Rich Vickers also had a solid performance credited with 10 tackles.
"All the credit to Dubuque," commented Head Coach Mike Durnin. "As head coach, I take full responsibility for today. I am confident our coaches and players will respond in a very positive way and we will be ready to go next Saturday."
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 0-5. Dubuque improved to 1-1 in league play and 2-3 overall.
Next week, the Norse will travel to Wartburg College for a game that is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. Norse fans can listen to all the action via audio stream and on local radio station 1240 AM KWLC, beginning with the 12:50 p.m. pre-game show.
