Academic Dismissal

Students will be dismissed from Luther College when their cumulative GPA falls below 1.00. Students on academic probation also risk dismissal from Luther College. Full-time students on probation will be dismissed if:

  • if they earn a term GPA of less than 2.00 (12 hours minimum fall or spring, 4 hours minimum January term), unless the term GPA raises the cumulative GPA above the minimum level for academic probation.
  • they fail to adhere to the conditions of enrollment established by the Committee on Academic Progress
  • they remain on academic probation for three consecutive semesters.

The college reserves the right at any time to dismiss any student who was not previously on academic probation.

If a student has experienced extenuating circumstances that resulted in academic dismissal, an option to appeal is available.  Students can initiate the appeal process by contacting the SASC office The deadline to appeal is noon on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.

Any request for future readmission to Luther must be presented as a formal application.  Typically only applications for re-entry supported by one or more semesters of full-time enrollment in transferable courses (with grades of C- or higher and a GPA of 2.50 or higher) at another accredited institution will be considered.
