Prairie Restoration

Anderson Prairie, the focal point in the setting of Baker Village, was planted in fall 1998 using a seed mixture that included 72 species of prairie wildflowers and five species of grasses. Eventually, the prairie will reach 4 to 6 feet in height, providing a beautiful landscape for the whole complex.

A pedestrian/bike path winds through the prairie and connects Baker Village to the main campus. The village has been situated so that access to the pedestrian/bike path is emphasized, while access to parking areas is de-emphasized. The main entrances to the units face campus and exit onto sidewalks that connect to the pedestrian/bike path. The goal is to foster a sense of independence and community throughout the village while linking residents with the energy of the main campus.
