Tournament Camp will emphasize match play and strategies in singles and doubles. Students will be exposed to a variety of situations that occur during the course of a match. Mental toughness and new ways of breaking down an opponent will give you more confidence in future matches! Learn how to beat the "pushers" and learn how to close out matches.
Adam Strand is in his third season as head men’s and women’s tennis coach for Luther College. The Luther men’s tennis team has won 31 Iowa Conference titles with six NCAA Tournament bids. The Luther women’s team has gone to the NCAA Tournament 13 times while winning 25 conference titles.
In Strand’s first two seasons, the Norse men finished 36-17 overall with a 14-1 regular season mark against Iowa Conference opponents. The squad finished No. 12 in the Central Region in 2012 and No. 14 in 2013.
The Norse women compiled a 34-19 record and a 13-2 regular season mark against Iowa Conference opponents in Strand's first two seasons. The women finished the fall portion of Strand’s third campaign with an 8-3 mark, giving Strand a total record of 78-39 with the Norse program heading into the 2014 spring season.
Strand previously spent five and a half years at Augustana College, where he also coached both squads. At Augustana, he led his men’s team to three straight 20 win seasons and three consecutive regional rankings. His women set a new school record for victories in 2010-11 and finished No. 14 in the Central Region. Strand was also named College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Coach of the Year in 2010. He coached 17 All-Conference performers and 10 ITA Academic All-Americans. Eight of Strand’s players also reached the 100 win mark under his leadership.
Prior to his years of coaching, Strand was a teaching professional at Westfield Tennis Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was also a teaching professional for A.C.T. Tennis Services in Downers Grove, Illinois. He is a 2004 graduate of Luther College.
Assistant Camp Director
Miriam Blom-Skrade is a 2004 graduate of Luther College as a four-year letter winner and competed in the #1 singles and #1 doubles position for the Norse. She received IIAC All-Conference honors three years and Academic All-Conference honors four years.
She is in her first season as head coach of the Knox College tennis program after spending four seasons as the Ames High School Boys Team. Miriam was named Conference Coach of the Year in 2011, 2012, and 2013. She coached Ames to two team state runner-up finishes, a third place showing, and one team State Championship, the team’s best finishes. Miriam also coached 1 state champion doubles team, 3 state runner-up doubles teams, and 4 singles medalists. She was the Director of Junior Tennis for the Ames Tennis Academy from 2006-10 and is a current 4.5 USTA player on a women’s and mixed doubles team. She has served as the Assistant Coach for the Norse women in 2004, 2011, and 2012 and graduated last year with a MS in Kinesiology at Iowa State University.
A mix of college and high school coaches will assist Strand, Olson, Blom-Skrade and Huinker, along with Luther College Men’s and Women’s tennis team members. The student to staff ratio is 6:1.

Luther College Sports Facilities
Regents Center indoor facilities include six tennis courts; a six-lane, 200-meter track; six full-sized basketball courts; 25-yard, six-lane swimming pool; locker, training, and equipment rooms. The Legends Fitness for Life Center offers a strength and fitness facility with its own climbing wall. The outdoor facilities include 12 tennis courts, a cross country race course, fitness trails, and an all-weather track, which was installed in the fall of 2009.
Housing and Meals
Campers live in a comfortable, air-conditioned residence hall on the Luther campus and eat in the Dahl Centennial Union dining hall. College athletes serve as camps counselors and provide full supervision and help direct all camp activities. Medical services for campers are available through local clinics, as well as the emergency room at the Winneshiek Medical Center. Individual campers are responsible for any medication, and hospital and physician fees.
