SUMMARY:Farwell Distinguished Lecture: Megan Mayhew-Bergman: “Writing the Sacred: Awe\, Ecology\, and the Imagination”
DESCRIPTION:Megan Mayhew-Bergman is an author\, speaker\, and teacher who writes about the natural world and remarkable women in a science and art-forward way – and likes to help others do the same. \nShe is the author of three books\, Birds of a Lesser Paradise (2012)\, Almost Famous Women (2016)\, and How Strange a Season (2022). She has written columns on climate change and the natural world for The Guardian and The Paris Review. Her work has been featured in The New York Times\, The New Yorker\, The Atlantic\, Harper’s Bazaar\, and elsewhere. Currently\, Megan serves as Director of Middlebury College’s Creative Writing Program and the Bread Loaf Environmental Writers’ Conference. She is also an instructor in the California Coast and Climate Semester and MPA in Sustainability Program and oversees an Environmental Storytelling Series as well as engaging writers and readers through her Substack newsletter\, Open Field Stories. \nMegan appears at Luther in conjunction with the Luther College Writers Festival on campus September 12-13. \nWatch via livestream \nFarwell Lecture Endowment\nThe Elwin D. and Helen Farwell Distinguished Lecture Series Endowment was established in 1981 in recognition of the contributions the Farwells made to the Luther community. Elwin D. Farwell was president of Luther College 1963–1981.
