2019 Residency

A 25-day immersion in the “City of Music”

January 10
Evening departure from Chicago O’Hare Airport

January 11
Arrive in Munich, travel to Salzburg

January 12
Tour of Salzburg, including Mozart’s birthplace and the Hohensalzburg Fortress

January 13
Travel to Vienna.  Panoramic tour of the city, check in to hotel

January 14-17
Standard weekday schedule, with daily rehearsals and class.

January 18
Morning rehearsal, followed by a ballroom dance lesson. Evening attendance at the Officer's Ball.                           

January 19
Free day for independent exploration

January 20
Optional morning church service at the Augustinerkirche or the Jesuitenkirche. Free time for independent exploration.

January 21-25
Standard weekday schedule, with daily rehearsals and class.

January 22
Afternoon visit to Wien Oberlaa, an indoor/outdoor thermal spa

January 26
Museum visits and/or free day for independent exploration

January 27
Optional morning church service. Optional afternoon hike through the Vienna Woods.

January 28
Final rehearsals

January 29
Travel to Bratislava, Slovakia. Evening performance at the Slovak National Theatre.

January 30
Museum visits and/or free time for exploration in Vienna.

January 31
Travel to Eisenstadt, Austria.  Evening performance at the Kultur Kongress Zentrum Eisenstadt Grosser Saal.

February 1
Free day for independent exploration.

February 2
Rehearsal and preparation for evening performance at the Muskverein.

February 3
Free day with a farewell group dinner in evening.

February 4
Depart Vienna.  Arrive Chicago O’Hare Airport in the afternoon.

The residency includes attending performances at three of Vienna’s finest concert halls: the Musikverein, the Konzerthaus, and the Wiener Staatsoper.

Coursework includes visits to Haus der Musik, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Belvedere Palace, and the Vienna City Museum.
