The Luther College Symphony Orchestra and the Nordic Choir will present a spring showcase concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's campus. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Those unable to attend may view the concert live online at stream.luther.edu/music.
The Symphony Orchestra will perform the first half with a program featuring "Huapango" by José Pablo Moncayo, "Adagietto," from Symphony No. 5 by Gustav Mahler and "Boléro" by Maurice Ravel. Daniel Baldwin, Luther professor of music, has led the orchestra since 1997. They have completed fourteen major American tours and five residencies in Vienna, Austria, under his direction.
The Nordic Choir will the second half with a program featuring pieces by Charles Woods, J.A.C. Redford, Daniel Elder and more. The Nordic Choir performs under the direction of guest conductor Kenneth Fulton; the choir also collaborates with pianist Nicholas Shaneyfelt, Luther visiting assistant professor of music. Fulton previously served as professor of choral studies at Louisiana State University, and is currently professor emeritus at the university.
