From May 25 to June 14, 2016 Jazz Orchestra traveled to Brazil for a three-week, for-credit immersion in the musical cultures of Rio de Janeiro and the northeastern states of Paraíba, Pernambuco, and Rio Grande do Norte.
The tour featured thirteen performances, workshops in Brazilian percussion, dance, choral singing, and frevo, live performances on Brazilian public radio and television, exchanges with amateur and professional ensembles, and (of course) several trips to the beach.
The Brazil tour is also a Summer Session I course: MUS 139, Music Culture of Brazil. It is a 4 credit course and satisfies the human expression, intercultural, and January-2 requirements.
Jazz Orchestra celebrated its return to the United States with a Tour Homecoming Concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell in Minneapolis.
