General information for ALL students with interest in band:

There are three auditioned bands to play in at Luther that are open to all class years and majors.

  • Concert Band: Luther's principle band ensemble, one of the oldest touring concert bands in the nation.
  • Wind & Percussion Ensemble: Luther's secondary band ensemble, comprised of outstanding musicians.
  • Varsity Band: Luther's tertiary band ensemble, open to students of varying skill and experience levels.

Auditions will take place for membership in any of the three ensembles and sign-ups will be posted on the Band Room door - audition dates and more information are below:

  • Band placement auditions for ALL winds, brasses, and percussionists will take place September 30 through October 4.
  • Audition excerpts are currently available for: Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Horn, Tenor Trombone/Euphonium, Bass Trombone/Tuba, and Percussion.
  • Winds, brasses, and percussion players who plan to audition for Concert Band and/or Winds and Percussion should prepare the appropriate audition excerpts. Students may be asked to sight read as part of their audition.
  • Winds, brass, and percussionists who plan to participate in Varsity Band should also prepare the appropriate audition excerpts. Prior to your audition, you will submit a form which indicates what ensemble you are auditioning for. If students wish, they will have the opportunity to only audition for Varsity Band. Students may be asked to sight read as part of their audition.

Full rehearsals will begin the first week of October. During fall semester, all music ensembles will rehearse weekdays between 4 and 9 PM. Detailed rehearsal schedules TBA.
