Every summer, around 400 student musicians entering grades 7, 8, and 9 spend a week at Luther College to study, explore, and perform music under the mentorship of Luther's music faculty.
The daily camp schedule includes ensemble rehearsals for band, choir, and orchestra (strings only), instrument-specific workshops, a wide variety of classes, and private lessons, offset by evening talent nights, concerts, and a variety of sports. The camp ends with a grand concert in Luther's Center for Faith and Life.
Students live in residence halls on campus and eat their meals at the college cafeteria. A dedicated, caring group of college-age counselors supervise the halls and daily activities.
The 2018 total camp fee was $505, which includes tuition and room and board. Optional private lessons were available in voice, all instruments, composition, and improvisation at a cost of $45 for a pair of half hour lessons. Fees have not yet been set for 2019.
Registration will open mid-December for the 2019 Dorian Summer Camps.
