The Dorian Invitational Choral Festival is held in April of each year to provide top-quality performing and listening experiences for entire high school choirs.
Five or six choirs from the upper Midwest are invited by our choral faculty to come to the Luther College campus for an entire weekday. During the Festival day, the combined voices create a large Festival choir which works with Luther choral directors on two select pieces.
Guest students rehearse in morning sectionals with other Luther faculty, then rejoin forces to cap off the day with a late-afternoon concert. The concert also includes 15-20 minute performances by each of the participating school ensembles. Three of the six Luther College choirs also perform during the day, giving the Dorian students a chance to hear choral music performed at a higher level and a chance to imagine where they themselves might be musically in the near future.
