2019 Dorian Band Festival Schedule

SUNDAY, MARCH 3rd

12:30-2:00 REGISTRATION - Center for Faith and Life, Upstairs Lobby.

Directors must check in when they arrive at the Registration Table.  Please turn in your students' completed permission forms at this time.  After you have checked in, pick up room assignments at the Housing Table for your students who are staying overnight on campus.

2:00 All participants assemble in the Main Hall of the Center of Faith and Life.

2:30-5:00 The first Dorian Massed Band Rehearsals will be held under the direction of Dr. Edwin Powell from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington, and Dr. Andrew Trachsel from Ohio University.  The Noble Band, with Edwin Powell is in the Center for Faith and Life.   The Sperati Band, with Andrew Trachsel, is in the North Gym of the Regents Center.  Students must have their own music and stand.

2:30-3:30 Dorian Symphonic Band chair placement auditions (Sites in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music to be announced).

2:30-3:30 Directors meet with Joan deAlbuquerque in the Choir Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.   This is a time to meet new directors and to share ideas and to address issues about the Dorian Festival.  What about it is valuable for you?  Your input is requested and appreciated.

3:30-5:00 The first Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal under the direction of Joan deAlbuquerque will be held in the Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

3:30-5:30 Soloists perform at designated centers.  Please be there a few minutes ahead of time so that our compact schedule may run without delay.

5:00-6:30 Supper – On your own.  Student Union Cafeteria ($11.00) and Marty's Cyber-Café (lower level of Union)  are available on campus.

7:00-9:00 CONCERT featuring the Luther College Concert Band and the Luther College Jazz Orchestra - Center for Faith and Life.  Free admission.

9:00 STUDENTS TAKE LUGGAGE TO ROOMS AND LOUNGES. 

After the concert:  Directors are invited to a reception co-sponsored by West Music Decorah and Luther College.  It will be held at the Courtyard and Cellar in downtown Decorah.

MONDAY, MARCH 4th

7:00-8:45 Breakfast in the Student Union Cafeteria ($7.20) 

8:00-11:00 Soloists perform at designated centers.  Please be there a few minutes ahead of time so that our compact schedule may run without delay.

8:45-10:15 Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal - Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. 

8:45-10:15 Dorian Massed Band Rehearsal - Sperati Band in the Center for Faith and Life. Noble Band in the North Gym of the Regents Center.

10:30-10:50 Daily Chapel at Luther College.  All are welcome to attend.  (Center for Faith and Life).

11:00-12:00 Dorian Symphonic Band Sectionals with Luther College faculty and associates (Sites TBA)

11:00-12:30 Dorian Massed Band Rehearsals - Sperati Band in the Center For Faith and Life and the Noble Band in the North Gym of the Regents Center. 

12:00-12:30 Dorian Symphonic Band Rehearsal - Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

12:30 Lunch for all at Student Union Cafeteria ($9.95) or Marty's or Oneota Market. 

1:30-2:30 Soloists perform at designated centers.  Please be there a few minutes ahead of time so that our compact schedule may run without delay.

1:30-2:30 Rehearsal of the Sperati Band in the North Gym of the Regents Center.

1:30-3:15 Final Dorian Noble Band rehearsal in the Center for Faith and Life.

1:30-3:30 Dorian Symphonic Band rehearsal - Sperati Room, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.  Please be prompt as time is at a premium.

1:30-2:30 Directors’ Reading Band in the Orchestra Room.   The reading band is organized by Monte Dunnum, Westby, WI, and the music this year is generously provided by Alfred Music Company. Thanks to all involved!

3:15-4:00 Final rehearsal of the Sperati Band in the Center for Faith and Life.

ALL STUDENTS ARE TO REMAIN IN THE CENTER FOR FAITH AND LIFE UNTIL ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE MADE REGARDING EVENING SOLOISTS.

4:00-4:45 Final rehearsal of Dorian Symphonic Band - Center for Faith and Life. ALL students will be responsible for carrying their own music and stand.

4:30-6:00 Supper – On your own. Student Union Cafeteria ($11.00) and Marty's cyber-café are available on campus.

4:30-6:00 Banquet (reservations and tickets required)  Peace Dining Room, upstairs of the Union.

6:30 DORIAN BAND FESTIVAL GRAND CONCERT - Center for Faith and Life. Free admission. No tickets required. This concert will feature the Dorian Festival Symphonic Band, outstanding student soloists, the Sperati Festival Band and the Noble Festival Band. Concert apparel is the school’s normal concert dress (black and white or all black are encouraged).
