Luther's Collegiate Chorale to perform homecoming concert

"Know the Score" is the official blog of the Luther College Music Department. Students, faculty, and staff provide content on music tours, concerts, recitals and scholarship happening on and away from Luther's Decorah, Iowa campus.

The Luther College Collegiate Chorale will perform a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus.

The performance, part of the Collegiate Chorale's annual Midwest Tour, is open to the public with no charge for admission. A freewill offering will be collected during the concert.

The 2018 Collegiate Chorale tour program is titled "Prayers for Peace" and includes works by Kim André Arnesen, Moses Hogan, Craig Hella Johnson, Jake Runestad, Nancy Wertsch and more.

In recent years, the Collegiate Chorale has performed in concert with the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, and performed at the national conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Collegiate Chorale is conducted by Jennaya Robison, Luther assistant professor of music. Robison's extensive background in chorale music most recently includes artistic director of Scottsdale Musical Arts and director of Music Ministry La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church in Arizona. In addition to Luther, she has taught at the University of Arizona and the University of New Mexico. Robison has conducted orchestras at the University of Arizona and Luther College, as well as community orchestras in Tucson and Phoenix.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation, with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. Nearly 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.

Collegiate Chorale will be on tour April 12-15, concluding with a homecoming performance on April 19.
