The Luther College Wind and Percussion Ensemble, directed by Joan deAlbuquerque and the Luther College Varsity Band, directed by James L. Fritz, will present their fall concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2019 in the Center for Faith and Life at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The Varsity Band program features Gavorkna Fanfare by Jack Stamp, Sunlight by Pat Metheny/S. Primatic, Africa: Ceremony, Song and Ritual by Robert W. Smith, Suite of Old American Dances by Robert Russell Bennett and Army of the Nile by Kenneth J. Alford/Frederick Fennell.
The Wind and Percussion Ensemble program includes Scenes from the Louvre by Norman Dello Joio, English Dances by Maurice Johnstone/Malcolm Arnold and Coat of Arms by George Kenny.
The Varsity Band appears at a variety of events throughout the year including Family Weekend events and its own formal concert each semester. This ensemble serves as a preparatory ensemble for eventual Wind and Percussion Ensemble or Concert Band membership.
The Wind and Percussion Ensemble consists primarily of outstanding band students. Membership is determined by audition. The ensemble is limited to approximately 50 students with a controlled instrumentation who rehearse three days a week. The size and quality of the ensemble allows an intense attitude in terms of rehearsal and performance material. In addition to Family Weekend performances and Dorian Band Festival performance, the Wind and Percussion ensemble performs in chapel and gives a full concert each semester.
