Luther Ringers Concert

Luther College Ringers Handbell Ensemble will present its annual spring concert at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 3 in the Noble Recital Hall of Luther's Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The program is titled "Seasons" and includes music by Antonio Vivaldi, Paul O'Neill and Robert Kinkel, Fred Gramann, Sandra Eithun, Jason W. Krug, Lee J. Afdahl—Luther class of 1971—Lennon and McCartney and Alex Guebert. A special feature will be a handbell solo performed by senior Landon McNamer.

Luther Ringers is conducted by Gregory Peterson, Luther professor of music, college organist and Luther alumnus from the class of 1983. Founded in 2008, the ensemble performs at Christmas at Luther, chapel services and area churches. Luther Ringers performs on a six-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells and a six-octave set of Malmark Handchimes, donated by Blanche Kangas of Spokane, Washington.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
