  • Time: 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Location: Noble Recital Hall, Jenson-Noble Hall of Music

Jon Ailabouni, Luther College adjunct faculty in music, will perform a jazz trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

This recital will feature Hard Drop 5, Ailabouni's Chicago-based jazz quintet. Ben Schmidt-Swartz, saxophone; Nelson Oliva, drums; Samuel Mösching, guitar; and Michael Lough, bass, join Ailabouni in an ensemble that embodies the quintessential jazz ideals of collaboration, interaction and improvisation.

The quintet will perform "Azrak," "Lullaby and Goodnight" and "Bordertown Shakedown," all new pieces by Ailabouni that explore the intersection of traditional and contemporary jazz styles. Two original compositions by Schmidt-Swartz as well as a tune by trumpeter Woody Shaw round out the program.
