Luther senior Irankuda and junior Saner present vocal recital March 16

            DECORAH, Iowa— Luther senior Janet Irankunda and junior Abigail Saner are performing a vocal recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

            Both the recital and the reception to follow are open to the public with no charge for admission.

            Irankunda, daughter of Clarise Kabasinga and Calliste Habimana of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, is a 2015 graduate of Coon Rapids High School. At Luther, she is majoring in music and plans to graduate in 2019.

            Saner, daughter of Todd and Jennifer Saner of Onalaska, Wisconsin, is a 2016 graduate of Onalaska High School. She plans to graduate in 2020 with a major in music and a minor in K-12 music education.

            Irankunda has selected for the program works by Richard Strauss, Reynaldo Hahn, Henry Purcell, Vincenzo Bellini, Poldowski, Florence Price and Margaret Bonds. Luther senior Martha Stelter will accompany Irankunda on piano.

            Saner is performing pieces by Vivaldi, Alessandro Parisotti, Bach and Claude Debussy, among others. Luther senior Katelin Parkinson will accompany Saner on piano.

            As a soprano, Irankunda studies voice with Andrew Whitfield, Luther associate professor of music, and Nicholas Shaneyfelt, Luther assistant professor of music.

            As a soprano, Saner studies voice with Carla Thelen Hanson, Luther instructor in music.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
