Jr. Recital: Jackson Churchill, trombone

Luther College junior Jackson Churchill of Duluth, Minnesota will present a trombone recital at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Noble Recital Hall in Luther's Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. There will be a reception immediately following the performance.

The recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Churchill, son of Timothy and Leslie Churchill of Duluth, graduated from Duluth East High School in 2016. He is majoring in Music at Luther, with a minor in K-12 education.

Churchill is a student of Michael Smith, Luther associate professor of music.

In his recital, Churchill will perform works by Malcolm Arnold, Bach, Carolina Calvache, Launy Grøndahl, Arthur Pryor, and Fred Rogers. He will be accompanied by Nicholas Shaneyfelt, Luther assistant professor of music, on the piano.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
