Composition Recital

The students of Jonah Elrod, visiting assistant professor of music, will debut their original compositions at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the Luther campus.

The recital is open to the public with no charge for admission. The performance will also be live-streamed to those outside of a 30-mile radius of Decorah, and available as a delayed stream to all 48 hours after the concert at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/luthermusic/.

Developed during the spring 2019 semester, this recital will feature music composed by Luther senior Jamie Swartley, junior Brooke Prohaska, sophomores Julia Ferris and Jacob Southerland, and first-year Eric Bacon. The pieces feature a string quartet, viola and piano, solo flute, solo violin and electronic music.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and more than 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
