Luther College's Peter Lingen presents a program of classical guitar music

Peter Lingen, Luther College teaching associate in music, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Luther's Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Lingen's performance repertoire includes works by Paul Fetler, William Walton, and Domenico Scarlatti.

The event is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Lingen studied guitar at the McPhail School of Music in Minneapolis. He then studied with Albert Bellson in St. Paul and in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program with Jeffrey Van and James McGuire at the University of Minnesota. He has taught at Luther for nearly 40 years.

Lingen composes, arranges, and performs music of his own in addition to teaching guitar and lute at Luther. His performances with Tim Scully on the "Prairie Home Companion" and at the Walker Art Center with Daniel Estrem were broadcast by Minnesota Public Radio.

Luther is home to one of the largest undergraduate music programs in the nation with five choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and nearly 800 student musicians. Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. Nearly 275 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
