Guest Recital: Hirono Borter/Kyoko Kaise, Violin/Piano

Opening the 2017-18 guest recital series, Luther College welcomes Violinist Hirono Borter and Pianist Kyoko Kaise at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 15th, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on Luther's campus.

The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The duo will open the program with Sonata for violin and piano by Claude Debussy, followed by "Distance de Fée" by Toru Takemitsu, and will conclude the concert with "Haru no Umi" by Michio Miyagi and Piano Trio in A minor by Maurice Ravel.

Borter is an award-winning violinist who has performed as a soloist in seven countries over three continents. She garnered a performance diploma from the Universität der Künste Berlin after studying at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. She went on complete a Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music in 2013 and has had chamber music coaching with members of the Alban Berg, Artemis and Borodin quartets. Borter will return to Luther next summer as a member of the Dorian Summer Music Camp strings faculty.

A native of Shizuoka, Japan, Kaise studied at the Tokyo College of Music. In 2008, she garnered her postgraduate degree in piano performance. She later moved to Berlin, Germany, to study at the Berlin University of Fine Arts. In 2011, she completed her diploma degree with distinction, and in 2015 her Artist Diploma. Kaise has won copious national and international competitions. In the spring of 2017, Kaise became an assistant professor at the Tokyo College of Music. She serves as an ambassador to the town of Izunokuni and is a jury member for national music competitions in Japan.
