The kick-off performances for Music in the Shape of a Pear will take place at 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Friday, February 24th with "Musica Electronica". The performances will take place in the Luther Planetarium, located on the first floor of the Valders Hall of Science.
Directed by Luther's Associate Professor of Music and Composer-in-Residence Brooke Joyce, the Music in the Shape of a Pear series includes four concerts, a seminar and a worship service. The concerts will feature performances of 29 compositions by 26 composers. Many of the composers are members of the Iowa Composers Forum, an organization that seeks to promote the creative work of composers who live in the upper Midwest.
Additionally, music by four guest composers from the Birmingham Art Music Alliance, the Iowa Composers Forum sister institution in Alabama, will be featured. Performers include students and faculty from Luther College, as well as local residents and guest musicians.
