A Celebration of Song: featuring Iowa State Singers, Luther College Nordic Choir, and Wartburg Choir

Three of the top choirs from the state of Iowa will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Orchestra Hall, 1111 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The concert will include performances by the Wartburg Choir, the Iowa State Singers, and the Luther College Nordic Choir. This special concert is open to the public. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $5 for students. Reserve tickets via telephone at (612) 371-5656 or online at minnesotaorchestra.org. Remaining tickets will be available at the Orchestra Hall box office.

The concert program includes a solo selection from each choir as well as a three pieces with all three choirs combined singing traditional pieces that are meaningful to each organization: “Unclouded Day” arranged by Shaun Kirchner for Iowa State Singers, “Give Me Jesus” arranged by L.L. Fleming for Wartburg Choir, and "O Lord God" by Pavel Chesnokov for Luther College Nordic Choir.

Founded in 1937, The Wartburg Choir has received critical international acclaim for their versatility of sound, artistic integrity and innovative programming. The choir was named the 2017 national winner of The American Prize in Choral Performance (college/university division.). The Wartburg Choir is one of five choral ensembles at Wartburg College and is comprised of students from various academic disciplines. The choir is conducted by Dr. Lee Nelson.

The Iowa State Singers, conducted by Dr. James Rodde, is a 72-member mixed choral ensemble comprised of students who come from numerous areas of study at Iowa State. This select ensemble performs the finest literature from Renaissance to contemporary, including newly commissioned works. In addition to performing various local concerts, the Singers tour annually and present an authentic Madrigal Dinner every January. Every spring they perform a masterwork with all ISU choirs, most recently Orff's Carmina Burana, Handel's Messiah, Brahms' German Requiem, and other such works.

Nordic Choir, founded in 1946, enjoys national and international acclaim as a premier collegiate choral ensemble in the United States. This year marks the first year of the Nordic Choir under the baton of Dr. Andrew Last, Luther alumnus of 1997. Last was preceded by the leadership of Allen Hightower, Craig Arnold and the 57-year tenure of Weston Noble.
