Luther College Professor of Music Andrew Whitfield will present a faculty voice recital on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 8:00pm in the Noble Recital Hall in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.The program, entitled “Auf Flügeln des Gesanges: On Wings of Song,” will be a tribute to the German language in musical settings by Franz Schubert, Edvard Grieg, and Robert and Clara Schumann, among others. The program will also feature two Baroque cantatas: Ich will den Kreuzstab gerne tragen, BWV 56, by J.S. Bach; and Der Schulmeister, by Georg Philipp Telemann.
The public is cordially invited to join the performers in singing the final chorale of the Bach cantata. If interested, please come early for a brief, pre-concert rehearsal of the chorale movement at 7:45pm in the Noble Recital Hall.Whitfield will be joined by music faculty colleagues Igor Kalnin, Virginia Strauss, Philip Borter, Andrea Beckendorf, Heather Armstrong, Kathryn Reed, Nicholas Shaneyfelt, and Andrew Last; and assisted by Luther students Shana Liu, Mikaela Hanrahan, Kiley Korey, Lindsey Sheldon, Abby Trewin, Garret Baumler, Riley Peters, Elliot Rickert, and Clay Sundquist.
