Private lessons on violin, viola, cello, double bass, and piano will be offered Monday and Wednesday afternoons between 1-5 p.m. on July 9, 11, 18, 23, and 25. Register for 30- or 45-minute lessons with a Luther music education major for $10 or $15 each, respectively. You pick the dates that work with your schedule! Lessons will be held in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Beginners are welcome! We ask that you bring your own instrument. A concluding performance opportunity will be available to those who would like to participate.
You may desire to join us for Mini Music Camp! We will also be offering group music-making opportunities on ukulele, barred instruments, and African drums July 16-17, and 19 (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 1-3 P.M.). Instruments will be provided. The camp, held in Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on campus, is open to students who have just completed grades 3-6. Cost is $25 for the first child and $15 for each additional child from the same family. Payment may be brought to the first lesson or first day of mini camp.
We are in the process of collecting information from local families with young students, talking with local music teachers, and researching similar successful programs. Our goal is to explore the possibility of establishing a more formal organization through which young people could further their musical skills while Luther students gain practical experience teaching under the guidance of a Luther faculty member. During the school year, we hope to offer lessons on a wider variety of instruments as well as create additional “non-traditional” choices. We desire to offer scholarships to those with financial need in order to include any young person with a desire to improve their musical skills.
