Meet our teachers! 

Elliot Douma is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. His primary instrument is the trombone, but he teaches guitar and ukulele through LCCMS. Elliot participates in three ensembles at Luther: Symphony Orchestra, Concert Band, and Collegiate Chorale. When speaking about his passion for music, Elliot says, “I’ve had music surrounding me my whole life. In high school, I discovered my passion for helping my friends learn music and I decided to study music education at Luther. A lifelong fan of rock and roll, I am excited to teach guitar and ukulele with LCCMS!"

Marya Haugland is a junior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is the trumpet, which she teaches through LCCMS. Marya participates in two ensembles at Luther: Concert Band and Symphony Orchestra. As a passionate future educator, Marya says, “I want to make a difference in the world by teaching an appreciation for music and the life skills that come along with being a musician. I am a firm believer in the power of empathy, patience, and understanding. Teaching lessons is a learning experience for students AND me and I feel that I come out of every lesson with new helpful information that will help me be the best band director and trumpet teacher i can be in the future!

Kailey Gering is a junior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is voice, but she teaches piano through LCCMS. Kailey participates in two ensembles at Luther: Nordic Choir and Vocal Jazz. In discussing her desire to teach music, Kailey says, “I am excited to be a LCCMS teacher because I have always been passionate about music and have been very active in it throughout my life. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn about and participate in music, because it has the power to change lives and unite everyone.”

Natalie Delcorps is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is the viola, but she teaches both violin and viola through LCCMS. Natalie participates in Symphony Orchestra at Luther. A passionate future educator, Natalie says, “I love teaching! Private teaching is great to have that one on one experience, learn challenging music and see the student’s progress. I’m looking forward to being an educator in the public schools very soon!"

Abigail Korenchan is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is voice, but she teaches piano through LCCMS. Abigail participates in two ensembles at Luther: Nordic Choir and Beautiful Mess. Eager to teach, Abigail says, “I am thrilled to begin teaching for LCCMS because this kind of work with young musicians is exactly what I hope to be doing in my future out of Luther! I thoroughly enjoy singing, playing piano and ukulele... I have a passion for love and justice and hope to relay those feelings in a future choir classroom some day.”

Colin Cosgrove is a junior at Luther College studying Music Education. Their primary instrument is voice, but they teach guitar through LCCMS. Colin participates in two ensembles at Luther: Nordic Choir and Collegium. When asked if there is anything they would like their students to know, Colin says, “Music is the primary reason for my social and emotional well-being. If I can help people learn to make music, I can help them to gain perspective and build community in a world that so desperately needs those things. Thanks for taking the initiative to make the world a more musical place!"

Emma Hyatt is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is the double bass, but she also teaches drumset through LCCMS. Emma participates in two ensembles at Luther: Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. Excited to teach through LCCMS, Emma says, “I am a LCCMS teacher because I love working with kids and I love the opportunity to work with instruments other than my primary."

Noah Reisdorff is a junior at Luther College studying Music and Management. His primary instrument is the tuba, which he teaches through LCCMS. Noah participates in three ensembles at Luther: Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Orchestra. Eager to be a LCCMS teacher, Noah says, “I love music I am super excited to be able to pass that on to students!"

Chelsey Schmeling is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is the trumpet, but she also teaches french horn through LCCMS. Chelsey participates in three ensembles at Luther: Jazz Orchestra, Concert Band, and the Transcendent Brass Quintet. When asked why she is a future music educator, Chelsey says, “I am a music educator because I believe that every child should have the opportunity to participate in some sort of music making! My hopes are to one day become a middle school band teacher!”

Catelyn Janda is a senior at Luther College studying Music Education. Her primary instrument is the viola, but she teaches violin, viola, and cello through LCCMS. Catelyn participates in four ensembles at Luther: Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Collegiate Chorale, and a piano quartet. Passionate about the mission of LCCMS, Catelyn says, “I’m excited to share opportunities for music making with all members of the community. I hope that I can share my passion for music with my students and that this program can reach students of all ages and abilities and connect us through the beauty of music."
