David Thor Larson, 1939

DAVID THOR LARSON of Cresco, Iowa, died March 4, 2013, at age 94 at the Evans Home in Cresco, where he had resided for the past four months. He was a Cresco resident for 60 years. A Mass of Christian Burial for David was held on March 9, 2013, at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was held March 8, 2013, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home in Cresco. Dave was born to Hans and Anna (Nielsen) Larson on Sept. 10, 1918, in Milan, Minn. He graduated from Riceville High School and Luther College, Decorah. He was married to Vera Benson on June 4, 1941 in Riceville. Dave served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1941 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. Dave was an avid golfer, bowler, and a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, Elm Street Singers, Small Business Administration SCORE chapter and former Boy Scout leader for many years. Dave was a familiar face at Cresco Union Savings Bank, where he worked for more than 40 years. He also was a school teacher and insurance agent in his early career. He and Vera raised their family in Riceville and Cresco and were the parents of Jon (Sharon), Allan (Donna), Mark (Janet), Anne, Jean (Roger) Giffen and Jim (Brenda) Larson. Dave is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Vera, his parents, two brothers and a sister. Memorials may be made to the Evans Memorial Home. (
