Circus Saturday

After several 5 AM wake-up calls in Siem Reap, not setting an alarm this morning was quite a treat! We had the option of taking a walking tour around Battambang with our guide and learned a lot about the city along with hearing plenty of great jokes. With an entire free day, we had the chance to make headway on our research papers along with relaxing time.

For dinner we headed to Choc L'Art Cafe and enjoyed a delicious meal and an even better dessert: hazelnut cake or chocolate mousse. The highlight of the day was by far our trip to the Phare Ponleu Selpak Cambodian Circus. This organization teaches at-risk-youth skills in the arts including music, theatre, dance, visual arts and circus acts. Our favorite parts of the show were by far the fire jump-roping and the tight rope unicycling while juggling! The members were so lively and we spent the entire show laughing.

A laid back day was much needed before a busy day seeing the sites of Battambang tomorrow.

A typical scene is Battambang.
One of our favorite parts of the circus!
