We' have arrived in Italy

Ciao from Rome, Italy!

My name is Nicole Billips and I will be one of the co-bloggers for the 2014 Art 290 J-Term course to Rome, Florence, and Venice Italy. I am a senior Art major/ education and museum studies minor at Luther and this J-term will mark my first ever trip to Italy. Needless to say, I am ecstatic to be studying abroad and happy to be one of our trips bloggers.

Today is day one of our adventure and after long flights and even longer naps on the plane, our whole group has arrived safety in Rome where we will be staying for the next six days.

Our first night has consisted of meeting together and then having the opportunity to explore some areas of Rome. After a few slices of pizza, a lot of us are beginning to feel right at home in Rome.

Tomorrow we will be going on a bus tour to see the major architecture attractions around Rome. Our lovely tour guide, Nino, will lead through sites such as the coliseum, arch of Constantein, and the Forum (Etc.). Then it's off to the Barbarini palace and the national gallery of antique art to begin drawing works from Caravaggio and Raphael.

We have our sketchbooks ready and our drawing pencils primed for some awesome sketching and lessons in art history. Stay tuned for pictures from our adventures and more wacky antics as we discover all that Italy has to offer!

Ciao for now and buonanotte (good night) from Italy!

Grazie per la lettura!

(thank you for reading)
