Self-Guided Tour in Paris

On our first self guided visit day in Paris a few of us decided to go to the catacombs which hold remains of 6 million people. The catacombs were created due to the overcrowding of Paris cemeteries and some remains were added later on from riots in the city. It was really interesting and kind of creepy to walk through the tunnels and see the walls lined with bones. Next we went to Notre Dame cathedral, we had been a couple days earlier but didn't get to look around for long. The cathedral was built starting in the 12th century in the French gothic architecture style. It has undergone a lot of restoration over the years. It was really interesting to see the similarities and differences between this cathedral and the other churches we have visited such as the Basilica of Saint Peter. After spending some time inside we got in line to climb to the top of the Notre Dame towers from which there is an incredible view of the city. By this point we had seen three views of the city including the eiffel tower, Arc de Triomphe and Sacre Coeur basilica and each are different and really give you perspective on how large Paris is. After walking back down we took a break to eat some delicious crepes. We then went to saint-Chapelle church which had amazing stain glass windows before heading back to our hostel.
