Participants in this art class will spend time visiting libraries, museums, and historic sites that are related to the development of early Irish books. The journey will begin with site visits in the London area and then travel to Dublin, Glendalough, Newgrange and other Irish locations. The concluding portion of the class will head to Ireland’s West where we will take some time in Galway City to practice studio bookmaking skills. Students will be constructing a variety of personal volumes, based on the sites, models, and experiences encountered while traveling. No pre-requisites, though interest in visual art or writing would be helpful.
