Headline of the Week:  Thank You! Thank You! 2-Step Verification for Faculty and Staff is Live!
Thank you to all the members of faculty and staff that “stepped up” to enabling 2-Step Verification for their Norse Apps accounts in the last two weeks. I know this makes your lives, on occasion, somewhat less convenient when prompted to provide a second step or “factor” when you log in to your email but I also am confident that the risk of successful phishing by nefarious actors has been reduced.

Headline of the Week:  Semantic Scholar for Neuroscience and Computer Science -  A Google Scholar Alternative
The new cross disciplinary majors of Data Science and Neuroscience represent exciting opportunity for students and faculty. It was further encouraging to discover, first through a TechCruch article and then through an article in Nature that there is an interesting new (and free) offering called Semantic Scholar.

Headline of the Week: Internet - Hacking, Phishing, Exploiting, and DDoS
The pace has quickened the last couple weeks. We are in the heart of the fall academic cycle - an especially busy time keeping systems and solutions up and running when any issues can impact our primary teaching and learning mission.

ITS Weekly - 23 September 2016

Headline of the Week:  Decorah - Smart City
The Decorah Municipal Communications Board held its third meeting this week. A primary agenda item was a presentation by a representative from
HR Green. The purpose of the presentation, as well as others that will come in subsequent meetings, is to prepare the board for working through the feasibility of Decorah creating a communications utility.

ITS Weekly - 16 September 2016

Headline of the Week:  More Bandwidth is In the Pipeline
This past Thursday Decorah Metronet (DMN) board decided to contract for a new Internet connection. This new connection will be a 10Gbps interface. Over that one interface we will double our Internet capacity to 2Gbps with option to use the full 10Gbps (for a price) should we need it.
