Notes from ITS Council - 09/05/18

  • New Items
    • Active Phishing Campaign Targeting Student Email Accounts
      • Aaron Steffans and Mary Logsdon received alert from the Dept. of Ed.
      • No one has reported receiving the Dept of Ed attack email but we will continue to watch for any signs of it.
      • Mark will work with Peter about how to respond to and research future phishing reports.
    • Update from Information Security Committee (ISC) meeting
      • We are doing further checking into ISC information sent to faculty regarding scanning and copier hard drives. We are waiting for a response from Ricoh on the MFDs that store the scanned images. Information will be shared with the faculty via Deanotes. Ricoh removed the hard-drives in printers when they were removed from campus.
      • Ways to share ISC information with staff might include a monthly staff meeting ITS tip of the month. The September ITS topic is on team drives
      • The possibility of starting a newsletter on security topics was discussed.
    • Employee Recognition Coffee, October 8
      • The following ITS staff will be recognized on Oct. 8 for their years of service: Chris Stuckman (20), Dave Huinker (10), and Matt Hammen (10).
    • ITS Sign in Main
      • Ideas on how to better direct those needing assistance from the ITS Help Desk were discussed. One idea would be to add a note on each of the ITS office doors in Main informing visitors of how to get technical assistance at the Technology Help Desk in the LIbrary or by calling x1000 or send email to [email protected]
  • Returning Items
    • GLBA Worksheet
      • Complete the Colleague and Other system responses by Sept. 21st.  This should be our highest priority in the coming weeks.
