User Services Meeting 9/17/18

Welcome to Jane - We welcomed Jane Venes, our new Public Services Specialist who started with us in August.

Chosen Name Policy - We discussed the implications of the new chosen name policy for ITS user services and the library (e.g. on library circulation system). Changes to additional systems are in progress.

Expense Reduction Analysts - Luther has engaged Expense Reduction Analysts (ERA) to review various overhead expenses for the College with the objective of reducing costs without loss of quality or service.  Hardware, software, and maintenance contracts within ITS are being reviewed. Information regarding this agreement was shared at the September ITS General. Details related to User Services purchases were discussed at this meeting.

MS Office - With the renewal of our Microsoft Campus Agreement this fall, there will be changes in offerings for students, faculty, and staff for their personally-owned computers. Details to come.

UltraVNC - UltraVNC, the tool used by the Technology Help Desk to remotely assist faculty and staff on their Luther-owned workstations, will be upgraded beginning this week. After logging in to workstations on Wednesday, a box will pop up briefly indicating ITS is installing updates.

Wash Hands Often - Reminder that we are entering the cold and flu season and to wash hands often.

Digital Signage Update - We are currently working to move to a new design on our digital signs on campus. We've met with the content owners for each of the digital signs and templates are being developed. The goal is to have the new design displaying on all of the digital signs by the end of this semester.

Nobel and Nansen Technology Request - We are working on designing permanent technology for Nobel and Nansen meeting spaces in the Dahl Centennial Union.

Video Board - The video board in the Regents Center gym was repaired this week.
