Network and Systems Summer Work Application

ITS Network and Systems seeks a student to help us install and maintain our campus data and telephone network. You do not need to be a CS or MIS major to work for ITS Network and Systems. If you have an interest in working with us, please complete an application.

We’re looking for two students to work for us this summer, but are interested in hiring one student with work study hours to start working this spring and continue for the summer as a summer student employee.

Position Description
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install equipment and cables according to layout plans.
  • Assist Telephone and Network Technician to complete wiring, repair, and troubleshooting tasks that require more than one person to be successfully completed.
  • Help troubleshoot existing network connections.
  • Install new network connections.
    • Includes any wiring, conduits, jacks, and pathways necessary to complete the installation.
  • Other similar duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to adapt plans to unexpected situations.
  • Ability to Climb ladders up to 10 ft
  • Ability to identify varied color coded wire.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new concepts

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with installation and maintenance of telephone wiring.
  • Experience with installation of network cabling and equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic power tools.
  • Comfortable with computer related technology

Physical Demands

Ability to:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Work with normal hand tools
  • Work with normal power tools
