Margaret M. (Schroeder) Amo, age 89, of Grinnell, Iowa, died on Sept. 7, 2017, at her home.
A funeral service was held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell with Rev. Kathryn Roys officiating. Organist was Cheryl (Carstens) Irland ‘79 and vocalists were Roger Henderson ’82 and Lisa Narveson-Henderson ‘81. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation was at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Margaret Marilyn (Schroeder) Amo was born in Tolley, N.D., on March 27, 1928, to Henry A. and Huldah (Anderson) Schroeder. She was raised and educated in Tolley, and graduated from Tolley High School in 1946. She graduated with a B.A. degree in music education from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, in 1950.
She taught music and English in Britt, Iowa, for two years, where she met her future husband, Marvin D. Amo. They were married in 1952 and moved to Grinnell. Marvin taught English in Grinnell High School and she taught piano for a number of years; then was employed at various businesses in Grinnell. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was active in Lydia Circle, WELCA, Monday Bible Study, choir, and was an organist for 53 years. She enjoyed her family, music and sewing for her family, and in later years, making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.
Survivors include her children, David (Dena) Amo of Brooklyn, Iowa, Kathy Amo of Urbandale, Iowa, and Mark Amo ‘83 (Sara Gaylor) of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Alex and Elise Amo; two step-granddaughters; and one step-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and a son in infancy.
