Edgar L. Hanson passed away at his home in McMinnville, Ore., on Aug. 24, 2017. Edgar was born July 10, 1934, in Colfax, Wash., to Eiolf and Mable Hanson. Edgar was raised in Junction City, Wis., where he graduated from Stevens Point High School. He then attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he received his B.A. in business. Edgar met Colleen at the Walther League Hospice and they were married on June 21, 1959, in Buhl, Idaho.
In 1968 Ed and Colleen moved with their three children to Salem, Ore. He taught high school at Chemawa Indian School for 26 years. He and Colleen then retired and moved to McMinnville in 1998 where he worked at Evergreen Aviation as an accounts auditor for 14 years. Edgar was a wonderful provider for his family. He found great joy sitting around a crowded kitchen table playing games such as dominoes and rummikub with his family. Edgar was a quiet man, known for his love of the Lord and his devotion to his family. He will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife, Colleen, son Jeffrey, daughter, Erika Anderson, grandchildren Jordan Petersen, Liz Wack, Jacob Petersen, Jonah Smith and Emily Smith, sister Lucille Schank, foster daughter Cindy Chiaravalle. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest daughter, Doreen Cassandra Hanson.
Services for Edgar were Sept. 2, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church with Rev. Peter Knutson officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville. Contributions may be given to LCMS Seminary Fund or Cassy’s Hope Scholarship at: https://chemeketa,thankyouforcaring.org/give
