Diane Marie (Iverson) Nordgaard, 79, of Red Wing, Minn., died Oct. 2, 2017, at her home. She was born on Nov. 18, 1937, in Decorah, Iowa, to J.C. Iverson ’23 and Ina (Weselmann) Iverson.
She graduated from Calmar High School in Calmar, Iowa in 1955 and from Luther College in Decorah with a degree in Education in 1959.
On July 18, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jack Nordgaard ’58 at Calmar Lutheran Church. They lived in St. Paul and Ord, Neb., for a number of years where she taught 8th grade. In 1968 they moved to Chicago and then to Palatine, Ill., where she taught from 1974 to 1998.
She and Jack retired in 1998 and moved to Red Wing. She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she was active in the social concerns ministry along with other church groups and activities. She served on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity, volunteered at the Care Clinic and Red Wing Area Food Shelf and was active in the League of Women Voters. She loved gardening and enjoyed being involved with the arts.
Diane is survived by her husband, Jack Nordgaard ‘58; two sons, Michael Nordgaard ’83 (Jen (Nelson) Nordgaard ’88) of Portland, Ore., and Timothy Nordgaard ‘86 (Barbara) of Minnetonka; two grandchildren, Erik and Luke; two brothers, Thomas Iverson ’61 (Jeannie) of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Steve Iverson ‘67 (Kathy) of Lake Mills, Iowa; one sister, Mary Jo (Iverson) Wilke ’55 (Tom) of Monona, Iowa, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Peter Nordgaard ‘88 and two brothers, John Iverson ’55, and Sam Iverson ‘64.
Memorial service was Nov.18, 2017, at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with the Reverends Paul Christenson and Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be in Decorah.
