Connecting to the LCSecure Wireless Network

The LCSecure wireless network uses encryption to protect your data as it travels between your computer and one of our access points. Luther College Faculty, Staff, and Student Norse Keys are allowed to connect to the secure network using their Norse Key username and password.

Connecting from MacOSX

  1. Open System Preferences from the Apple menu and choose Network
    Connect To LCSecure 1
  2. After Network name Choose “LCSecure”
    • When prompted enter your Norse Key.
  3. Choose Advanced. Here you can set up your preferred wireless networks. Drag them in the order you prefer. For optimal network security you should prefer to connect to LCSecure over LCWireless. To indicate that, drag LCSecure higher on the list of preferred networks than LCWireless.
  4. Click OK
  5. Click Apply and close the Network window.

Connecting from Windows Vista/7

  1. Open the Control Panel from the start menu
  2. Choose “Network and Sharing Center”
    Connect To LCSecure 2
  3. Choose “Manage wireless Networks”
    Connect To LCSecure 3
  4. Add
    Connect To LCSecure 4
  5. Choose “Manually create a network profile”
  6. Enter the following information
    • Network name: LCSecure
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
  7. Click Next then choose “Change connection settings”

  8. Click the “Security” tab. Under Network Authentication Method select Protected EAP (PEAP), then choose “Settings”
  9. In the Protected EAP Properties window:
    • Check Validate Server Certificate
    • Uncheck Connect to these Servers
    • Under Trusted Root Certification Authorities verify that the check boxe for “Go Daddy Class 2 Certification Authority” is selected. No other boxes should be selected under Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
    • Select Authentication Method: Secured Password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
    • Click Configure
    • Under “Automatically use my Windows Logon name and password (and domain if any)”
      • If this is a personally owned computer do not check this option.
      • If this is a Luther owned computer connected to the luther_college domain Check this option.
    • Click OK
  10. (Windows 7 users only. Vista users skip this step)
    • Click the “Advanced Settings” Button (Windows 7 users only. Vista users stop here)
      • Check the checkbox next to “Specify an Authentication Mode”
        • If this is a personally owned computer Choose “User or computer Authentication”
        • If this is a Luther owned computer connected to the luther_college domain Choose “Computer Authentication”
  11. Close the settings windows by choosing OK twice and then close.

Connecting from Android 2.3 Gingerbread

  1. Open Settings
  2. Choose “Wireless & Networks”
    Connect To LCSecure 6
  3. Choose “Wi-Fi Settings
    Connect To LCSecure 7
  4. Under the Detected WiFi Networks” section Choose LCSecure and configure with the following settings
    • Network Name: LCSecure
    • Security: 802.1x EAP
    • EAP Method: PEAP
    • Phase 2 authentication: None
    • CA certificate: (unspecified)
    • User Certificate: (unspecified)
    • Identity: —your Norse Key username—
    • Anonymous Identity: —leave blank—
    • Key(Passphrase) or Password : —your Norse Key password—

Connecting from IOS (iPod, iPhone, iPad)

  1. Open Settings
  2. Choose WiFi
  3. Choose LCSecure
    Connect To LCSecure 8
  4. You will be prompted to “Enter Password”. Use your Norse Key username and password.
  5. You will be prompted to accept the certificate. Accept it.
    Connect To LCSecure 9
