Hangouts Meet

Google Hangouts Meet is a remote meeting and collaboration tool used for web conferences and online presentations. It is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to organize and attend online meetings. General features include:

  • Platform Independence (Windows, Mac, iPad, or Android)
  • Screen sharing
  • Up to 50 participants
  • Share keyboard and mouse control between participants
  • Ability to change presenters on the fly

We recommend using Google Hangouts Meet (up to 50 people) or Skype (up to 25 people) for video conferencing sessions. When you're wanting a more structured, controlled environment or need to record the meeting, Zoom (up to 100 people) is ideal.

Faculty, staff, and students can start a Google Hangouts Meet, Skype or Zoom Basic session at any time. Zoom Pro sessions require advance notification and setup by ITS.

Creating an Account

Since Luther is a G Suite for Education school, faculty, staff, and students already have the Norse Apps account needed for Hangouts Meet.

Creating a Video Conference

Open your Norse Calendar (calendar.luther.edu) and create an event. Edit the details of the event and click "Add conferencing". The calendar summary will then contain links to join the meeting using Hangouts Meet or by phone.
