Luther College's Cathedral Choir will perform a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus.
The performance, open to the public with no charge for admission, concludes the 2016 Cathedral Choir tour. Those unable to attend may view the concert live online at: www.stream.luther.edu.
The 2016 Cathedral Choir tour program, titled "Creation", includes Eric Whitacre's "Cloudburst," F. Melius Christiansen's "Built on a Rock," Morton Laudsen's "Prayer," and Moses Hogan's "I Can Tell the World."
Cathedral Choir is comprised of 102 singers selected primarily from the sophomore and junior classes at Luther. The choir participates in campus worship, Christmas at Luther performances, special events and concerts throughout the academic year.
The ensemble performed at the 2010 North Central American Choral Directors Association conference in Minneapolis where Eric Whitacre, distinguished conductor, broadcaster and public speaker, and 2012 Grammy Award winner, conducted the session.
Cathedral Choir is conducted by Jennaya Robison, Luther assistant professor of music. Robison's extensive background in chorale music includes serving as Artistic Director of Scottsdale Musical Arts and Director of Music Ministry at La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. In addition to Luther, she has taught at the University of Arizona and the University of New Mexico. Robison has conducted orchestras at the University of Arizona and Luther College, as well as community orchestras in Tucson and Phoenix.
Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the world with six choirs, three bands, three orchestras, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians. Luther's students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 300 music majors study music theory/ear training, history, education, composition, jazz, church music and performance.
