Grant supports Giving Day (#luthergives16)
Luther College was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Thrivent Financial Foundation, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The grant supports Giving Day (#luthergives16), a one-day social media extravaganza to encourage giving back to the college. Set for March 10, #luthergives16 will use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat to encourage alumni, parents and friends to give to the Luther College Annual Fund.
"Luther is excited to host this first-ever giving event using the power of social media. Thanks to Thrivent's generous support, we are able to engage volunteers and donors in new and creative ways," said Maria Smith, director of annual giving at Luther College.
#luthergives16 includes a full day of fun and philanthropy, including live streaming of student performers, faculty interviews and other campus happenings. More than 125 Luther alumni and friends have already volunteered to help encourage participation among their peers and inspire generosity to the Annual Fund during the March 10 event.
"We are delighted to assist Luther College through this grant," said Laurie Wilkinson, director of Church Relations at Thrivent Financial. "We trust that this funding will encourage increasing numbers of individuals and groups to generously support Luther through this innovative social media outreach."
