Isabela Rosales, Luther College junior from Iowa City, Iowa, has received a UPS Scholarship for the 2014-15 academic year. Rosales is the daughter of Elisabeth and Raymundo Rosales. She is majoring in English and religion.
The $2,400 scholarship is provided through the Iowa College Foundation, an organization that raises funds for its 23 member independent colleges in Iowa.
The Iowa College Foundation is a statewide association for private colleges and universities that is affiliated with the Council of Independent Colleges. At the national level, the CIC teams up with the UPS Foundation to distribute funding of the UPS Scholarship. This year, the CIC awarded nearly $1.5 million in scholarships from its UPS Educational Endowment Fund to private institutions of higher learning across the nation, including a grant of $55,200 to the Iowa College Foundation. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of the students' academic achievement and financial need.
"UPS is proud to continue that spirit of giving by partnering with CIC to support thousands of students working to become the leaders of tomorrow by obtaining an education from our nation's independent colleges," said Eduardo Martinez, president of The UPS Foundation. "We are proud, too, that The UPS Foundation and UPS employees directed $97.5 million in philanthropy and in-kind services, including more than 1.8 million hours of volunteer service, to local communities around the world."
The UPS Scholarships are funded by the UPS Educational Endowment, which is held and administered by the CIC. Since its inception, this fund has generated over $50 million in scholarship support for more than 17,000 students at independent colleges and universities.
