The Luther College Cathedral Choir will perform a homecoming concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus.

The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission.

Cathedral Choir will perform works by Johannes Brahms, Jan Sweelinck, Giovanni Palestrina, Rihards Dubra, Brooke Joyce, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, Eleanor Daley and arrangements by Paul J. Christiansen, Jeffrey Ames and Moses Hogan.

Cathedral Choir is one of six auditioned choirs at Luther. The ensemble is comprised of select singers drawn exclusively from the rich talent of the college's sophomore class. Cathedral Choir participates actively in campus worship, the Christmas at Luther concert and at special events and concerts during the academic year, including an annual spring tour.

Cathedral has collaborated with Collegiate Chorale, Nordic Choir and the Luther College Symphony Orchestra to perform major choral/orchestral works such as Brahms' "A German Requiem," Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass" and the 2011 premiere of Stephen Paulus' "Luther Mass." These performances have been produced and released on DVD by Luther College Recordings.

Cathedral Choir has been conducted by Sandra Peter, Luther associate professor of music, since 2005. Peter also conducts Aurora and teaches conducting and ear training at Luther.

Peter is an active member of American Choral Directors Association, the College Music Society and a charter member and Iowa State chair for The National Collegiate Choral Organization.  She has been invited to speak at national meetings of both ACDA and NCCO and several of her choirs have performed at regional choral conventions.  She is a published arranger with the Neil Kjos Company and MorningStar Music and the co-editor of MorningStar's "Luther College Music Series."

Her experience includes many years conducting church choirs of all ages, most recently serving First Lutheran Church in Decorah.  She was also a founding member of the National Lutheran Choir.  A native of Saint Paul, Minn., Peter holds degrees from Concordia College Moorhead, the University of Arizona and the University of Iowa.
