Luther College Wellness will host a family dance with live local folk music from 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21 in Marty's Café on the Luther College campus.
The dance is open to the public with no charge for admission.
The Decorah-based Western Home String Band will perform live contra dance music. The event will consist of simple folk dances that are easy to learn and follow.
The members of Western Home String Band are known as some of the best folk musicians in the Decorah area.
Highly sought-after square/contra caller Sue Hulsether will lead the dances. Hulsether is well known for her clear teaching, welcoming manner at the microphone, engaging humor and her uncanny ability to choose the perfect dances for whatever group is in the room. She calls for dances across the Midwest and is a teaching artist in the local schools of southwest Wisconsin.
Hulsether was a former member of the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers and is currently dancing with ShoeFly! in Gays Mills, Wis.
Greg Lonning, Luther College Wellness director, and Rachel Sandhorst, Decorah community member, are organizing the event to promote wellness activities for all ages that are fun and promote community building.
